In regards to why there was never a Twilight Zone 2, I imagine there’s two reasons. For one, when the first movie saw the deaths of three actors, including two children, how excited is the studio going to be to make a sequel? The whole trial for Landis and others occurred just a few years later, which isn’t exactly great publicity for a sequel. The other thing is that a new Twilight Zone series began two years after the movie came out. Is there much of a need to have a sequel when you have a series going on?
I am surprised we haven’t seen another movie after all of these years though.
NEED ANOTHER GOOD HALLOWEEN PODCAST? Over on Movie Stream Cast I covered The Monster Squad ( http://bit.ly/1LXMhhD ), What We Do in the Shadows ( http://bit.ly/1Wm0oIJ ), The Guest ( http://bit.ly/1VG8S7U ), Cooties ( http://bit.ly/1KINUCp ) and Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein ( http://bit.ly/1KL1NMW ). Here on The Sci Fi Podcast they also covered the entire Alien franchise ( http://bit.ly/1Mnbp1D ). And over on Horror Movie Podcast we (sadly) covered the entire(abysmal) A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise ( http://bit.ly/1Q0oIuD ). There is the ongoing “Spooky Flicks Fest” from our friends at Forgotten Flicks Remembers ( http://forgottenflix.com/ ) and I think the GeekCast guys even did something Halloween related ( http://bit.ly/1WpS0Ta ).
What did Station say!?!? I guess we’ll never know…
At first I thought she just cussed, but then the bleeping kept going…and going…and going.
Coming from Station! I don’t doubt that was all cursing ;P
That’s what she said.
No, really… that’s what she said.
Hahahaha
Btw, you would pick the CHAPPIE episode!
Congrats on nabbing PROMETHEUS.
Thanks brah. Of course that means I now have less chances to snatch that Alien Quadrilogy. Good luck there.
Wins one contest.
Whines about not winning all the contests.
#firstworldproblems
ITS QUADROLOGY!
Oh. Wait. Wait. Damn.
Ha, nice.
My boss always says “work in process.” Drives me absolutely bonkers.
I don’t know why I shared that here, but seemed somewhat appropriate.
Quaternity!
I re-watched The Faculty earlier in the month for the HMP’s 31 days of horror and I was shocked at how much I loved it. It had been probably a decade since I last saw it, but I feel like it’s one of the most underrated 90’s horror films. I’m not even talking about in a guilty pleasure sort either. In the end, it became one of the movies I enjoyed most for the month of October.
I now see The Faculty as being more Scream 2 than Scream 2.
I love this comment.
Guys, THE FACULTY is fine, but it can’t hold a candle to DISTURBING BEHAVIOR. Of course, that’s mind control, not body snatching…
And, of course, I kid.
My brain almost shorted-out there for a second. Not nice.
I would have felt really bad if my joke made you brain dead.
I’ll be completely honest, if I told a joke and it caused someone to go brain dead, I’d kinda be proud of that.
You’ll be the possessor of the most powerful joke of all time. You embrace that honor.*
*While also sending flowers to the family of the one you caused to go brain dead since you’re not a true monster.
Can’t…stop…laughing…
Disturbing Behavior is the exact same as wearing a t-shirt to a snowball fight. It may have seemed like an okay idea at first, but now you realize it’s just flat out terrible.
Solid analogy.
Is the jab at me in this episode the reason why you had to warn me about it? Come on, man! Give me a little more credit, bruh. I’m not THAT sensitive. You must have me confused for Dino or Sal. But seriously, don’t be scared, I can take it.
#getatmebro
How dare you say that about me! That’s it, we’re not friends anymore.
Whoa whoa whoa! What do you mean friends?
Just kidding, Sal. I think we all know Dino is the sensitive one.
I’m the sensitive one, dammit!
Actually, I think Solo is THE sensitive one.
Don’t worry, Solo, we love you.
He’s quite sensitive, but I love him for that. I’m kind of sort of the same in real life.
What’s that supposed to mean?
That… you’re… sensitive…
…
Ooooohhhh, I see what you did there. Well-played, sir.
Pretty much proved Juan’s point, there. 😉
There was a jab in there?
I believe the line was, “the only time Juan will be considered a winner in anything” or some equally low-handing fruit.
Oh, yeah, I heard that…
Hahaha that’s the line! I was actually drinking and driving (tea, guys, come on) and I almost spat tea all over the place when I heard that.
Sounds like the type of activity David would do.
It’s a good thing David hasn’t read this comment because he’s got a beer can staff and he knows how to use it.
People keep mentioning this mythical beer staff, but I still haven’t seen any pics. I’m beginning to think it’s all just one big lie.
It’s real, Sal. It’s real.
And it’s absolutely amaze-balls.
This text box is getting really really tiny.
I feel like I’m stuck inside of the garbage compactor in A New Hope.

Hey Mattroid I just listened to the takeover episode of the geek cast and you mentioned progressive rock and sci-fi when talking about Coheed and Cambria and I immediately thought of a few albums that you might enjoy. No hard feelings if you think they’re crap as they’re most definitely not for everyone.
Ayreon – Into the Electric Castle
Oreson Space Collective – The Black Tomato
Hawkwind – In Search of Space
I’m actually curious myself now bc I enjoyed a little Coheed back in the day. At least the first two albums. Lost track of them after that.
I remember listening to some stuff of theirs a few times and liking what I heard, but I never pursued them. The bands I posted above are very different though. They might be too cheesy and whacky for most ears.
I’ll give them a listen. I have an extremely eclectic selection of music; I’m sure it’s not too cheesy for me.
You seem like the eclectic type and out of all of the hosts, I think my taste for music aligns closest to yours. There is a site I use called the prog archives that I think you’d appreciate. It’s ugly as can be but has an endless supply of knowledge. I’ve always been drawn to prog, but it was only a few years ago that I decided to take a plunge into the endless abyss that is this genre and I’ve been trapped in a Floyd hole ever since. What are some of your favorite prog albums of you don’t mind me asking?
Dunno, honestly. I like some prog stuff for sure (Yes, DT, Coheed, Rush) but I don’t listen to a ton of it anymore. I like the idea more than the execution, often times. I guess Moros Eros could be considered prog too, and they’re great.
But if it’s a themed album, or a story or something, I’m invested quickly.
YES and Dream Theater are awesome and absolute musts if you’re into prog. Rush is one of my absolute favorites. I didn’t know about Moros Eros, but I’ll give them a listen.
Well, I woud say prog is about 99% concept ablums haha, so you have plenty of stories to pick from. The Electric Castle in particular is quite lovely (I think).
By the way, I received my Prometheus Blu-ray in the mail the other day. Thank you so much! I can’t wait to revisit it. Your addressing of the envelope made me LOL.

Hey guys, Awesome movie picks this week! I am finding your selections on reviews are really great and the interplay between co-hosts is hysterical. “Fire in the Sky” and “The Faculty” are two of my favorites.
Spacewolf is right: Hartnett’s best. Super likeable outcast character in that one.
I have to agree with Mattroid on that final “Twilight Zone” movie segment. It totally out-does Shatner’s “Nightmare at 20,00 feet” episode. Lithgow is incredible as the strung-out passenger. Also the little jabs like the annoying girl with the creepy puppet, the seemingly drugged-up mother, and the know-it-all fat security guard fellow add some crazy touches to that story. And yes, that slimy gremlin was a lot of fun and was not cheesy!
That segment (the others were good too) is the perfect re-make. It took a really well-conceived concept and added some fine details that made it more suspenseful, more disturbing, and more emotional. I am a HUGE fan of Serling and his writing, and of course the original “TZ” series, but that movie was the epitome of what a re-make can and should be. Film “re-makers,” take a lesson from this!!
If another TZ movie does come out, I am all for it. I hope it can attract quality directors like the ’83 version did. That has to be a possibility given the enormous and lasting popularity of “Twillight Zone” and its influence on so many-filmmakers in the sci-fi genre. Right?
Keep up the great podcasts…Any thought about reviewing some original TZ episodes?
Thanks!
We will be doing a TZ episode in the not-so-distant future; it’s just too great not to give it some love.
How about some mecha and kaiju love? Or is that not sci-fi enough?
As a proud owner and lover of Pacific Rim, Godzillas and Kongs and more, I can tell you that these will have their moments and episodes on TSFP.
Also Voltron. Always and forever Voltron.
I’m more of a Mazinger Z kind of guy, but Voltron’s tight in my book.
This episode was a lot of fun. The Halloween stories were great.
And I always had a feeling that Josh had a propensity for touching strangers.
On an unrelated (and long-overdue) note, I really dig the SpaceWolf intro sound clip. I think it’s great how Mattroid will introduce Josh in a sort of calm, quiet voice, and then WHAM!… that SpaceWolf intro just slams you in the face. Makes me giggle every time.
I back you up on that. I also loved Stations’ UGHHH!! on this episode. More of that please. Oh and her mac’n’cheese noises were hilarious.
Oh man, that was so good. Even better that it seemed to gross out the guys.
I have a friend that talks like Station! and even kind of looks like Station! so I’m right at home whenever she’s on.
Crazy. A clone of Station! is scifi indeed.
My only disappointments with this episode are that I once again called it the “quadrology” and that Station! didn’t get the chance to contribute as much.
I’m sure if she had a beer before recording it would certainly guarantee you all the Station! hijinks you could handle.
I thought your carefully pronouncing “quadrology” was a highlight of the show, actually.
I like it when Station! talks, I’ll be more shut-uppy next time.
Thanks man. It was fun to be able to let loose a little more than usual…as if we are formal. Derp.
How’s the baby?
What baby? Ohhhh you were talking to Dino. Sorry, I just thought we were having a moment there…
The baby is surprisingly chill, sleeps pretty much all night if we let him, and makes either mogwai or gremlin sounds, depending on his mood. He’s an easy baby.
Thanks for asking.
THIS IS PRIMARILY FOR STATION,
but applies to anyone who was considering a first-time watch of THE FACULTY based on my recommendation.
SO, I REWATCHED THE FACULTY AND …
to be honest, the first 50 minutes is pretty hit or miss. There are some good scenes, but there are also a lot of bad scenes. Josh Hartnett, in particular, is a TOTAL TOOL for that portion of the show. I think it is by design and we are actually supposed to be seeing the worst sides of these characters, but it nevertheless results in the first half of the film being pretty annoying from time to time–
HOWEVER
–stick with it because there is a switch at 51:30 and the movie is a total blast from there on out. You shouldn’t just skip to there, because there is a lot of (really clever) thematic set-up (by Williamson) before it arrives at that spot, but it is really the 20 minutes from 51:30 – 1:11:35 that work well enough to make me love this movie fantastic. There is part of me that thinks this could be better as a remake, but there are also a million lightning-in-a-bottle elements from the cast to the staging that would be hard to match. I wish Rodriguez had just given this a little more care (although he does some really fine work here at times), because this is 75% an AMAZING film and 25% just plain bad.
Hmmm… your percentages seem a little off, but I’m no mathematician…
But yeah I agree. I really like this movie. It’s been a couple of years since I revisited it, so I’m not entirely certain when this switch happens. Does it happen before or after they all get in the car and start plotting what to do?
Station! and I are going to give this a revisit soon I think.
Just try and let her enjoy it without saying “see, that’s dumb and THAT’S dumb and that’s dumb…” You’re going to struggle.
What?
I think he just called you dumb, bro.
Not cool.
I’m saying I think Station has a better chance of enjoying it if Matt isn’t openly skeptical the whole time–like I am afraid he will be. When I rewatched, I just imagined Matt in my head the whole time saying “this is stupid” …
I’m sure I can find a way to at least keep my yap zipped.
I’m now seeing this. You are right on with your impression of Matt. I’m super guilty of loud judging as well, though. We will rewatch it with our traps shut.
It’s right after/during the library scene between Stokely and Casey. It just ramps and ramps for the next 20-30 minutes.
And it may seem that the math is off, but Im counting all if the good parts in the first 50 minutes toward the 75% total good.
So apparently, if you’re in the middle of typing up a review on iTunes, if you accidentally click on the iTunes page (Instead of the text box), it makes your review text box disappear.
Trying to leave reviews for HMP and their sister sites have made me pretty much hate iTunes with a passion.
Timewas I loved it; now I hate it. With age comes wisdom, and ear hair…apparently.
I just listened to my first Sci Fi podcast. Nicely done all! I rewatched the Faculty today during lunch because Space Wolfman is so passionate about that movie. It’s a really fun watch (yes, I own it).
I was so excited for Attack the Block when it came out but I fell asleep watching it. A few months ago, I rewatched it and loved it! I guess I was just tired the first time around.
I haven’t seen Daybreakers yet, and thanks for ruining John Landis for me!
Thanks, Darkus Markus. I’m very happy to hear that you have AtB another shot and liked it. It gets even better with rewatches.
The image of mattroid rollerblading about and crying might be the most hilarious thing my brain has ever experienced.
This episode is so much fun.
Thanks. Glad you’re back!
And if y’all would like, I’m happy to send a picture of me crying whilst rollerblading. It’ll cost you a combined total of 1000 shares of the podcast though. Ha ha.
I imagine it’ll be easier to just ask Station! for it the next time you forget to lower the toilet seat or take out the trash.
She’d have to take one, first. And believe me: I fail in many husbandly ways, but I get my chores done.
It might be too late for most of you, but try to catch 60 Minutes tonight if you can. They have a story on The Collider >> http://www.cbsnews.com/videos/preview-the-collider/
It’s the stuff of science fiction… except, it’s science fact (or, just “science” I suppose).
Ah, I missed it. I’ll watch online.
It was pretty fascinating. Wonder if Brain watched it (although, I’m sure he knows all about it).
of course I did! when I took quantum mechanics my professor was one of the lead scientists on the ALICE project. The only thing that got me to survive that class were his stories about working at the collider. good stuff.
*****PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT*****
Just in case you fine folks don’t already know, you can buy an actual real light saber (almost)…
https://www.saberforge.com
I’ve searched long and hard, and these are by far the best I’ve found. Someone please let me know if you have found better (before I drop a few Franklins on a couple of these).
NICE!
I know what I’m getting for Christmas. And you said long and hard…
Yes, I did.
I’ve got the Master Replica of Vader’s and it’s incredible. Not cheap, but I love it. The ones you’re references I’ve seen and they are top notch, but I don’t have a lot of experience with them.
Where did you acquire this master replica version of Vader’s?
My son built his own Vader light saber at Disneyland this past summer. Not incredible from a replica standpoint, but makes for an awesome toy.
A perfect gift from my perfect wife, actually. But I believe it was from their site. This was years ago, but I’m sure it’s all the same info. I’ll post some pics at our FB page.
