Movie Podcast Network BONUS Episode 008: 2017 MeetUp Event – Better Watch Out with Director Chris Peckover

Better Watch Out - Chris Peckover

Sci-fi nerds…welcome! For those who did not get to attend this year’s Movie Podcast Network MeetUp Event in Salt Lake City, we are producing a few episodes of our coverage from the event.

Christmas came early to the safe neighborhood of Salt Lake City, Utah! It was an incredible event and we wish you all could have joined us. The weekend included multiple meals with hosts and listeners, trivia games, live podcasting, live music, hiking, a birthday party, group screenings of Better Watch Out (2017)—with a Filmmaker Q&A—and Tremors (1990), plus a double feature of Friday the 13th (1980) and Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1988) on the actual Friday the 13th of October 2017. Whew! Quite a weekend! You’re going to hear great live recordings from all these events in the days to come.

Here, UMC’s own Gillman Joel, Dr. Shock and Wolfman Josh podcast with their MPN co-horts from Horror Movie Podcast, Retro Movie Geek, Movie Podcast Weekly and Movie Stream Cast, in front of a live audience after a screening of Better Watch Out (2017). The panel is also joined by the film’s writer/director, Chris Peckover for a Q&A with the MPN listeners. If you’re jealous of all the fun we had at the 2017 MPN Meetup Event, you’d better watch out for the next one! We’d love to see you there.

This film is currently available to stream on Amazon. Continue reading

The Sci-Fi Podcast – Episode 44: Blade Runner 2049 – Live Reaction

Welcome to The SciFi Podcasta wretched hive of scum and villainy a bi-weekly podcast focused on in-depth discussion of all things science fiction. The SciFi Podcast features four hosts—Mattroid, Solo, and Station!—and frequent guests. Each episode we look at a science fiction theme or franchise and take the discussion where no show has gone before.

In this short episode (which is really a teaser for the upcoming Blade Runner episode), the Sci-Fi Podcast is joined by Jay and Karl from Movie Podcast Weekly, and special guest Sharon Solo Jr. Together they discuss their initial reactions and feelings about Blade Runner 2049. Did it hold up to the original? Was Karl disappointed? There’s just too much to sum here, and we want to hear what you thought about it, so check the comments section and leave your own.

MOVIE PODCAST MEETUP!

The Sci-Fi Podcast episode 42: It Came From Planet X! – Night of the Comet

Some movies are so strange, so bizarre, so ultimately excellent that they belong in their own pocket universe of The Sci-Fi Podcast, known as Planet X! Mattroid will be joined in each of these short episodes by a special guest and together they’ll discuss a relatively unknown movie and any number of related (and unrelated) tangents.

In this fantastically manic episode of It Came From Planet X, Mattroid and new best friend Joel Robertson (Jor-el) can’t keep their ducks in a row, chatter like spider-monkeys, rarely stay on topic (STAY ON TARGET!) and very well may even manage to discuss the 1984 gem, Night of the Comet, a work of brilliant fiction.

Have you seen it?
Do you like it?
Do you own it?
Don’t touch that dial, you teenage zombie freaks! Chat about the movie in the comments section.

You can hear more from Joel and his studious cohorts at Retro Movie Geek, and as always make sure to check out our friends and family at Movie Podcast Network.

RATINGS:

Mattroid – 8/10

The Sci-Fi Podcast: Episode 41 – Bad Earth: Part One

Welcome to The SciFi Podcasta wretched hive of scum and villainy a bi-weekly podcast focused on in-depth discussion of all things science fiction. The SciFi Podcast features four hosts—Mattroid, Solo, Brain, and Station!—and frequent guests. Each episode we look at a science fiction theme or franchise and take the discussion where no show has gone before.

Every now and then a terrible sci-fi movie comes out and stuns audiences for years; sometimes a sci-fi movie comes out and polarizes audiences, leaving some dumbfounded while others are awe-struck; sometimes these movies become cult-classics and other times they are buried at the bottom of the dollar-bin at your local superstore.

Here we’ve got movies that reflect on Earth in the distant future; how things may be different, may be the same, or may be kooky as hell with weird things going on for no apparent reason. There’s so much to discuss, and we want to hear your thoughts about these movies, so check the comments section and leave your own.

THE SCI-FI PODCAST EP 38: Alien Abduction Part 2 – Communion (1989) and Fire in the Sky (1993)

Have you ever wondered about the origins of the Alien Abduction sub-genre in cinema? Episode 116 of HORROR MOVIE PODCAST was Part 1 in a crossover with your loyal hosts here at The Sci-Fi Podcast. On that ep, the HMP hosts and special guest Mattroid, from TSFP, spent some time exploring the theme and reviewed the films Alien Abduction (2014) as well as Altered (2006). We capped off Part 1 with an excellent interview with filmmaker Eduardo Sanchez.

Part 2 of that series is now here! In this episode, HMP co-hosts Dr. Shock (known as Dave Bowman on TSFP) and Wolfman Josh (known as SpaceWolf on TSFP) join the crew of The Sci-Fi Podcast to review the creepy Communion (1989) and Fire in the Sky (1993).

Mattroid, now joined by the other TSFP co-hosts, continue the epic discussion of Alien Abduction, remembering classic movies in the genre, exploring the trope that is Alien Abduction, and utilizing our resident scientist–The Brain–as a sounding board for our hypotheses regarding the probability and plausibility of life OUT THERE and that life coming here. You also will not want to miss Station!’s hilarious review of Communion or the great discussion about Fire in the Sky.

THE SCI-FI PODCAST EP 37: Life (2017) and Displacement (2017)

Missing William Solo Jr., fighting a small baby for command of the mic, and covering two unrelated movies? It’s all a day in the life of the Sci-Fi Podcast crew. On this episode, Ryan “Rybo” Welling pops in for a visit and discusses giving Station! a medal for winning a fight on the internet.

Mattroid and Brain discuss the recently released Life (2017) and whether or not it’ll improve or make your own life worse for watching it.

And later in the show, the two are joined by Station! and baby Ripley for a hilarious detailing of the movie Displacement (2016) and discover that the movie is tied to a very provocative cable network.

Did you enjoy either of these movies? Find them repulsive? Let us know in the comments section.

THE SCI-FI PODCAST EP 35: The Gang Goes to SLC Comic-Con FanX 17

Welcome to The SciFi Podcasta wretched hive of scum and villainy a bi-weekly podcast focused on in-depth discussion of all things Science Fiction. The SciFi Podcast features four hosts—Mattroid, Brain, Solo, and Station!—and frequent guests. Each episode we look at a science fiction theme or franchise and take the discussion where no show has gone before.

In lieu of a standard TSFP episode, Mattroid, Solo, Brain, and Spacewolf attend Salt Lake City’s Comic-Con FanX 2017. Station, having recently given birth, was unable to join in the fun and was sorely missed. Various discussions, interviews, and insights into the bizarre world of pop-culture conventions are discussed by the hosts during this episode, and Solo shows off his goofy side more than once, which alone is worth the price of admission. Have you ever been to a Comic-Con or similar kind of event? Let us know all about it!

The Sci-Fi Podcast will return to form soon with episode 35.
